Cymbidium

Cymbidium are terrestrial orchids that grow naturally in China, Japan, the Himalayas, SE Asia, the Philippines and Australia. They flourish almost anywhere where the summers are warm and bright and the autumn and winter nights are cool. Cymbidium flower annually - in the period late autumn through to spring - and are long lasting, up to 3 months. Excellent for cut flowers. Cultivation is uncomplicated, making cymbidium suitable for growers new to orchids.

Phalaenopsis
The phalaenopsis, or Moth Orchid, has climbed rapidly in popularity because of its suitability for growing as a pot plant in the home. Most species naturally occur in the tropical forests throughout the Far East, from Malaysia to Taiwan and from the Philippines to New Guinea. The plants display their flowers on arched sprays and may produce several branches. The flowers come in a range of sizes and colours, from stunning pure whites through pastel and deep pinks to yellows and peachy shades. Individual blooms may last for several months and often a second flowering occurs within the year. Cultivation is not difficult.
Odontoglossum
Considered by many to be the most beautiful of all the orchid family, odontoglossum are mainly cool/intermediate growing plants, suitable for the glasshouse, conservatory, or indoors. They flower particularly during late autumn, winter and spring. Blooms may last up to 2 months on the plant. Cultivation is a little more demanding than either cymbidium or phalaenopsis.
Zygopetalum

Zygopetalum grow both as terrestrial plants and epiphytes (air plants), originating from South America. They are gaining in popularity due to their wonderful scent and the extension of the colour range resulting from recent development work in Australia and New Zealand. They make excellent pot plants and have great potential as a cut flower. Cultivation is straightforward and suitable for growers new to orchids.
