The bit in upper case is the 'Grex Epithet' applied to all the progeny of the same two parents. As in a human family, each resultant offspring will exhibit some degree of variation.

If one Grex Epithet is shown, the 'cross' has been registered with the Orchid Registrar. If not yet registered, the cross is designated by its parents' names e.g. Z. MCBEANS x Z. KELWAYS.

AM stands for Award of Merit, either from RHS - the Royal Horticultural Society - or from AOS - the American Orchid Society.
