It is a common misconception that all orchids are difficult to grow. In fact it is one of the charms of orchid collecting that the various species in the genus include a wide spectrum of challenge for the grower, ranging from very simple to highly demanding.

Three of the species illustrated on this site - cymbidium, phalaenopsis and zygopetalum -  fall into the straightforward category, making reliable house or greenhouse plants. The fourth - odontoglossum - is in the intermediate range and is not a good starter plant for the newcomer to orchid growing. Click on the names for detailed cultural instructions.

A hard copy version of these cultural notes is included with the plants you buy.

Whatever orchids you choose to grow - and we have many, many more - you can be sure of expert advice and practical help if you need it - just call McBean's.
