Other Hardy & Mediterranean orchids

Spotted or Marsh Orchids are probably the most familiar hardy orchid in the British Isles and a number of the species make excellent and undemanding garden plants. For all, cultivation in pots is generally stress-free for the amateur grower.
Nomenclature is another matter, however. Distinctions between species are often a little foggy and hybridisation can readily occur.

The elegant Bletilla striata, naturally found in E Asia, is an established favourite in British gardens.
Cultivation is usually trouble-free and established plants will bulk up nicely.
